Effortlessly organise, manage and edit your images across multiple pages.

Easily edit images and update alt text, making your content more accessible and SEO-friendly. You can also search through your uploaded images to quickly find the one you need, saving time and improving efficiency.

Launching the Media Library

Ready to dig into the full potential of your Media library?

You’re always just a button press away from getting started and the steps are detailed below.

Dashboard Launch

From the dashboard you can open the Media Library, by clicking the "Media Library" option in the left sidebar of your Shogun dashboard.

Editor Launch

Within the editor of the page you can access the Media Library by:

  1. Dragging an Image element onto the editor

  2. Pressing the "Select Image" button

    1. On the element

    2. In the right sidebar under the "Main" tab (once the Image element is clicked)

You may notice a slight difference in the user interface depending on where the Media Library is launched.

The Dashboard

The Media Library will show all images that have already been uploaded to the Media Library from a Shogun or a Shopify element.

The Editor

The Media Library has 3 navigation tabs:

  • Shogun - Shows all images uploaded in the editor

  • Shopify - Images that can be uploaded to Shogun from the Shopify content library

  • Unsplash - Images that can be uploaded to Shogun from Unsplash

There are 2 Locations in the Media Library where images can be uploaded:

  1. The File upload area

    Image upload area
    • The "click to upload" link in the file upload area can be clicked and you can browse your folders.

    • Or Images can be dragged onto the blue file upload area

  2. The Upload Button

    When clicked provides the "Upload" and "Add a link" options to upload images:

    • Upload - Images can be dragged onto file upload area or you can browse your folders

    • Add a link - Add the image URL to upload the image to the Media Library

Please keep in mind, that the image element supports the following file formats: JPG, static PNG, WebP, SVG*, and animated GIFs.

*Note: attempting to use the "edit image" option with an SVG will change them into a non-vector format. Images should be adjusted before uploading to avoid this.

Uploading Shopify images to Shogun Pages

Shopify images can now be uploaded to Shogun pages by selecting those images from the Shopify tab in the Media Library:

The uploaded Shopify image is then listed in the Media Library under both the "Shogun" and "Shopify tabs":

Clicking on an image in the Unsplash tab will upload that image to the Shogun page and the Shogun tab in the Media Library.

Media Asset Information

Each image has information around it.

Explanation of Information surrounding images in the Content Library

The image details include:

  1. Page count - The number of pages the image appears on. If the image hasn't been added to a page, then the page count is 0. However, if the image is added to a page/s then hovering over the page count also shows the name/s of the page/s the image appears on:

  2. Quick Actions Menu - Allows easy access to the View, Edit, Delete and Copy URL options.

    • View - Opens the image in a Single page, where the page name can be edited and Alt text added.

    • Edit - Allows you to edit the image

    • Delete - Allows the image to be deleted, if the page count is 0.

    • Copy URL - Copies the URL to your devices clipboard.

  3. Image Name - Shows the name of the uploaded image.

  4. Size - Shows the size if the image.

  5. Aspect Ratio - Shows the natural Aspect Ratio of the image

Editing Images

Editing images can be accomplished through clicking on the "Edit" option in the Quick Actions Menu. However, while the process of editing images is the same as is described in our image related article, there is something worth mentioning.

Once an image has been edited a new version of that image is created and added to the Media Library.

Deleting Images

Images can be deleted by:

  1. clicking the "Delete" button in the "Quick Actions Menu"

  2. clicking "View" from the "Quick Actions Menu" and then clicking the "Delete" button in the single page view of the image:

Please note that, you can only delete images with a 0 page count.

Trying to delete an image with a non-zero page count will prompt you that all instances of the image have to be removed from their pages, before the image can be deleted from the Media Library:

Warning that images cannot be listed on a page if they are to be deleted from the Content Library.

To help you locate the pages the image is used on clicked on the "Used in" link takes you to the single page view of the image where the pages are listed:

Naming Images and Updating Alt text

Clicking on the "View" button in the Quick Actions Menu opens in the image in a single page. The Image name and Alt text can be updated in this view:

Edits to the Alt text field once saved will take effect on all the pages the image has been added to. You will have the option to either simply save the change or have the pages with the images publish so the changes reflect on the live page:

If you decide not to automatically publish these pages they will reflect in your dashboard at the top of the pages list as outdated.

*Note: You can also access the single page view by clicking the image directly.

Searching the Media Library

One of the most requested features for content management has been the ability to search. The new Media Library allows you type the name of your image into a search box to more quickly and efficiently locate them:

Editing Shopify Sections images

We've already discussed your ability to add Shopify images to the Shogun image element.

With the ability to add Shopify sections to your Shogun pages you can now also change any Shopify images in the Shopify section using our Media Library interface:

*Note: You could change the Shopify images in Shopify sections previously, but the interface was basic.

FAQs

Why can't I delete my image from the Media Library?

Only images that have a zero page count can be deleted from the Media Library. You'll need to remove images from the pages that they have been added to, before attempting to delete them.

I'm not seeing any options to access the Media Library?

The new Media Library is available to merchants using one of the current Shogun plans.
