Updated over 12 months ago

What is Shogun Personalization?

Shogun Personalization allows you to create customized shopping experiences for different customer segments on your Shopify store. Rather than displaying the same content to all visitors, you can tailor pages, templates, or even entire themes to match who’s viewing your store.

What Are The Key Features Of The App

  • Page Personalization – Customize individual pages for specific audiences

  • Template Personalization – Create variations that apply across multiple pages

  • Theme Personalization – Implement store-wide changes by segment

  • Audience Targeting – Define customer segments using multiple conditions

  • Performance Tracking – Monitor how each personalization performs

How To Get Started

  1. From your dashboard, click "Personalize" to create your first personalization.

  2. Choose what you want to personalize:

    • Page – e.g., homepage, product page

    • Template – affects multiple pages, like all product pages

    • Theme – applies to store-wide elements and styles

Creating Audience Segments

You can personalize content based on:

  • Device Type – Desktop or mobile visitors

  • Location – Country, region, or city

  • Customer Status – Logged-in vs. guest customers

  • Visitor Type – New vs. returning visitors

  • URL Parameters – Serve content based on URL

  • Referral Source – Customize based on referral traffic

How to Create a Personalization

1. Select Your Target

  • Choose the page, template, or theme

  • Give a name to your Personalization

2. Create Variants

  • Click "Add variant" to build a new version

  • Edit variants in Shopify’s editor

  • Assign each variant to a specific audience segment

3. Set Up Audience Rules

  • Choose from pre-built or custom segments

  • Use Match Any or Match All logic

  • Order variants to control which is shown first

4. Review and Publish

  • Preview each variant

  • Publish when ready to go live

How To Monitor Performance

Track performance through your dashboard:

  • Sessions

  • Page views

  • Clickthrough rates

  • Conversion rates

  • Add to cart rates

  • Revenue metrics

Best Practices

  1. Start Simple

    • Begin with 1–2 clear audience segments

    • Test small changes first

  2. Use Clear Naming

    • Label each personalization and variant for easy tracking

  3. Monitor and Adjust

    • Regularly review performance

    • Retire or tweak underperformers

    • Test different variations

  4. Consider Priority

    • Order matters - the highest Personalisation in the list is evaluated first, with the default version showing when no rules match.

Managing and Understanding Personalizations

  • Draft – Means the work is in progress

  • Running – Personalization is Live and Visible to your audience

  • Ended – Personalization has stopped, but can be restarted

  • Finished – Personalization has been completed with final results logged
