Shopify product bundles offer numerous benefits for merchants and customers alike. This guide will go over everything you need to know about this particularly useful feature, including what product bundles are exactly, why they help your bottom line, and how you can add them to your Shopify store.
A product bundle is a set of two or more items that are sold together. Most merchants offer bundles at a discount, making them more affordable than buying each item in the bundle separately.
This technique can help you increase your average order value, clear out excess inventory, and offer a more personalized experience to your customers.
For example, Dyson offers two bundle options for their Airwrap hairstyling tool — one for straight to wavy hair and another for curly hair. Each bundle comes with different attachments and accessories, saving customers from the trouble of having to seek out the best add-ons for their hairstyle themselves.
The clothing brand M.M. LaFleur allows customers to make their own bundles, which is known as mix-and-match bundling. The more qualifying items the customer buys, the bigger the discount.
With mix-and-match bundling, you can increase your average order value while still giving customers the freedom to explore your catalog and discover new products that they may be interested in.
To create a new product bundle for your Shopify store, just follow these simple steps:
Step 1. If you haven’t already, you need to install the Shopify Bundles app. This app was developed by Shopify themselves and is completely free.
Step 2. The app will automatically open once installed — now, click on the “Create bundle” button.
Step 3. Give your new bundle a title and select which products will be included (you can add up to 30). Then, click on the “Save and continue” button.
Step 4. Once the bundle has been created, you’ll find that you have access to many of the same customization options as a standalone product, such as adding a description, images, and video.
This settings page is also where you can add the discounted price of the bundle. If you are using a discount, you should strongly consider filling in the “Compare-at price” field with what the products would cost if purchased separately. On most themes, the compare-at price will be displayed on the page with a strikethrough text effect, highlighting the value of your deal.
The inventory level of your bundle will be determined by the inventory of each individual product that makes up the bundle. Whenever one product is sold out, the entire bundle will become unavailable.
Purchase options, such as subscriptions and pre-orders, are not compatible with bundles.
It should also be noted that the Shopify Bundles app only works for pre-determined product bundles. If you want to offer mix-and-match bundles that customers can build themselves, you’ll need to use a different bundle app or custom-code a solution.
Are you currently using Shopify Scripts?
These small pieces of code allow you to offer personalized experiences in your cart and checkout pages. For example, you can use scripts to set up promotions such as buy one, get one free, and they allow you to offer dynamic pricing based on order volume as well as other factors (e.g., the per-unit cost can be reduced for each additional unit that the shopper adds to their cart).
There are three types of Shopify Scripts:
Here are a few things to keep in mind when using product bundles with Shopify scripts:

Shogun’s user-friendly visual builder allows absolutely anyone to create their own custom Shopify pages from scratch. From tabs to accordion menus to countdown clocks and much more, you can select whichever ecommerce elements you want to display, add them wherever you want on the page, and fully customize the content and styling of each element to your liking.
In addition to power, Shogun also offers convenience. To save time and reduce the risk of data entry errors, you can pull product information directly from your Shopify account when editing pages in Shogun.
Here’s how to use this method to quickly add product bundles to your Shopify store:
Step 1. Open the Shogun app and select the page you would like to customize.
Step 2. This will open the page in Shogun’s visual editor. To open the elements library, select the “Elements” icon in the left sidebar (it’s the one that looks like a plus sign inside of a circle).
Step 3. Scroll down to the “Shopify” section of the elements library, click on the “Product Box” element, and drag it onto the page.
Step 4. Open the “Use This Product” dropdown menu — in addition to individual products, you can also search for and select product bundles here. Choose the product bundle you want to add to the page, then select “Use this product”.
Step 5. Now you can use options from the “Shopify” section of the element library to add details about your product bundle to the Product Box element.
Once you drop a Shopify element into the Product Box, the corresponding data for your bundle (title, price, image, etc.) will automatically be populated. You can then adjust the styling of each detail as needed.
Another option is to use the “Collection” element, which will add a series of Product Boxes. This is useful for when you want to feature multiple product bundles on the same page.
To swap out the product data that is used for one of the items in a collection, select the item and then click on the “Change product…” button.
Choose the product bundle you would like to feature instead, and it will then be displayed on the page.
While the above example went over how to add a product bundle to a product page, the same process could be used to add a product bundle to a collection page.
The only difference would be in Step 1 — instead of opening a product page to edit, open a collection page. If your store has a lot of pages, you can use Shogun’s search or filter features to speed up the process of finding the collection page you want to customize.
Indeed, you can use Shogun to add a product bundle to any of your blog pages or standard pages as well. This is just one of the many ways that Shogun helps Shopify merchants make their design ideas a reality.
