At Shogun, we’ve been intentionally building a remote company from the very beginning. Which is why we couldn’t be more excited to be recognized as the eighth Best Medium-Sized Company for Remote Workers by Quartz as part of their 2021 best-of list.
“Shogies—what we call team members here—truly live out our core values of transparency, trust, autonomy, empathy, and growing together.”
— Sr. Recruiter, Michelle Torres.
Quartz’s rankings recognize companies that already fully embrace a remote workforce. As they say, the best place to work depends on a few factors: “a place that treats you well, pays you fairly, and allows, inspires, and maybe even teaches you how to reach your professional potential”, but even more than this—and especially when working remote:
“Do you feel included in your company culture? Are you trusted by managers who can’t always see you?”
Belonging and trust are core aspects to whether a remote work environment…well, works!
To create this year’s list Quartz looked at each company’s practices and employee satisfaction concerning leadership, pay and benefits, training and development, culture, communication, and overall engagement. The surveys were scored, and the best-of companies were categorized based on size.
As a company striving to provide the best possible work environment, we’re so proud to have made the list!
As Nick Raushenbush, Co-founder and COO of Shogun shares:
“At Shogun, our mission is to empower brands to create exceptional ecommerce experiences. And we are only as good as the people creating, selling, and supporting our software. Shogun is fortunate enough to have hundreds of talented and considerate team members who contribute to our success every day.”
We actively seek diverse perspectives from the best talent around the world to inform our company and products and it really comes through in our outcomes. We currently have 180+ team members across 16 time zones.
As Mattie Isaac, VP of People shares, we believe being the best remote company rests on three distinct pillars:
“We’ve prioritized a deep investment in DEI, the growth of our people, and operational efficiency. We’ve created—and continue to iterate on processes that help our Shogies onboard, communicate and do impactful work.”
On the details of the systems put in place:
The last two years have been record-breaking for Shogun. In 2020, we closed our Series A and B funding at a total of $45M, and in 2021 we raised an additional $67.5M in Series C funding.
We’ve also grown our global team exponentially! Between September 2020 and September 2021, we more than doubled our headcount, welcoming 117 new Shogies in this time frame! It’s been a very exciting time, and things are just heating up!
As Emily Flannery, Senior Product Manager shared:
“Shogun is not only remote but adopts and advocates for a truly flexible work schedule. [we’re] inclusive and respectful of all team members in all time zones spread across the globe.”
We encourage Shogies to do their best work from a productive place. Wherever you get your best work done, that’s where we want you to be.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our incredible team. We’re grateful for our team members whose contributions ultimately make us a “Best Company for Remote Workers.”
We’re looking forward to welcoming even more Shogies to the team in 2022. Join us.
