National Efficiency Supply (NES) had already achieved monumental success.
Founded by John Alba, NES partners with schools, businesses, museums, and municipal buildings to retrofit them with the best commercial lighting, commercial heat pumps, and electric vehicle chargers. They have steadily built a strong reputation as industry experts and trusted partners of businesses across the Northeast.
But in 2024, the NES team decided it was time to scale to the next level of growth. To unlock that next level, they needed a digital presence that matched their brand’s success.
Jim Boudreau, the Chief Growth Officer, set out to rebrand the business from the top down, and that included a brand new website with e-commerce capabilities.
NES was operating on an unstable WordPress site that couldn’t scale with the business. Their site needed to serve as both a branding tool and an e-commerce storefront, so it was mission-critical that their platform was equipped with powerful e-commerce tools and that team could retain creative control to build the brand presence it needed.
Jim had extensive experience with BigCommerce and trusted the robust tools it provided for ecommerce capabilities, so NES decided to replatform from WordPress to BigCommerce.
However, while BigCommerce offered stronger ecommerce functionality, its native content management capabilities were limited.
Jim was not only leading this rebrand, he was acting as a one-man marketing band, and although he has some design and coding capabilities, he doesn’t consider himself a designer or developer. He needed an intuitive solution that would allow him to create high-quality professional pages that showcased NES’s success without having to rely on extensive coding or developers. And he needed to build those pages quickly. NES had an ambitious goal of rebranding and relaunching their new site within six months.
In short, NES needed a better, faster way to design and build its pages. So Jim asked the BigCommerce team for their suggestion for the best page design tool for BigCommerce stores.
Their answer?
Shogun, of course!
Once Shogun was installed, Jim began exploring its various tools. "The UI is really good and that certainly made it a lot easier to come up to speed quickly," he noted. After the initial exploration, Jim got to work building NES’s site with BigCommerce and Shogun.
Jim created a whopping 22 pages using Shogun’s intuitive drag-and-drop builder. He found a happy balance in the visual editor with the ability to peek under the hood, so to speak, at the code. “There is a really good balance between depth of functionality and usability in the tool," he explained.
After building pages in Shogun, Jim found it so flexible and powerful, they rebuilt the site’s homepage with it after encountering restraints with their BigCommerce theme.
Shogun provided NES with the perfect solution to bridge the gap between BigCommerce's robust e-commerce capabilities and their need for flexible, professional content management.
The result was that National Efficiency Supply had a rebranded, ecommerce-enabled site that accurately reflected their success and perfectly positioned them for their next stage of growth.
And thanks to Shogun, Jim was able to create it without designers or developers. Best of all, he was able to meet NES’s timeline expectations, relaunching the newly branded site in record time.
"We could not have platformed on BigCommerce if we did not have Shogun to get the content pages right. It really became a mission-critical tool," Jim said.
With a shiny new site, Jim and the National Efficiency Supply team are poised to tackle their next phase of growth. They will expand their industry expert status with thought leadership blog content (that they can create and manage in Shogun) and plan to dramatically increase their product offerings with their new ecommerce capabilities. Additionally, the team plans to drive growth with specialized landing pages for seasonal marketing campaigns.
New growth avenues have been unlocked thanks to their CEO’s big vision, a tenacious marketing leader, and BigCommerce and Shogun, and while NES is used to brightening up spaces, this time it’s their future that’s brighter than ever.
