Shogie Spotlight: Rosalia Matos
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re excited to share a Shogie Spotlight on Rosalia Matos, our Channel Account Manager.
Check out the Q&A below for Rosalia’s story and how she celebrates her heritage. We’re grateful to have you on your team, Rosalia! 💜
Q: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
A: Hispanic Heritage Month makes me proud to be Hispanic/Latina. It’s a celebration of our culture.
It’s a moment to reflect on where I’m from and take time to hear the stories of my parents and my aunts growing up in the Dominican Republic!
Q: What does it mean for you to show up authentically?
A: Showing up authentically at work means being genuine in my interactions with my colleagues and at work events. I can be outspoken, share my ideas, and give feedback without feeling like I can’t be myself! I feel like Shogun appreciates individuality.
Q: What would you like to see more of for Hispanic or Latino professionals in the future?
A: I would love to see more Hispanics/Latinos working in tech, specifically holding C-level positions. I would also love to see more Hispanic/Latina women launching ecommerce businesses!
Q: What’s your favorite Hispanic or Latino-owned ecommerce business? Why?
A: I think Hija De Tu Madre has really quirky and cute products that speak to all Hispanics/Latinas! They carry funny shirts so we can wear our culture proud!
Q: Is there a movie or artist that you wish everyone would watch/listen to learn more about Hispanic or Latino history?
A: If you want to learn more about Dominican music, one of the most recognized artists of our time is Romeo Santos, who sings Bachata and was part of the boy band “Aventura.” Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic and consists of guitar melodies.
I recommend listening to “Un Beso” by Aventura or a newer song, “Volvi” by Romeo Santos and Bad Bunny (but this one has a Reggaeton spin to it) 😊
Q: What is your favorite dish or recipe?
A: My favorite Dominican dish is “Los Tres Golpes.”
It’s a breakfast dish consisting of “mangu” which is smashed plantains garnished with red sautéed onions, served with three sides: fried cheese, eggs, and salami! So good; it’s my favorite!
